Bio-catalysis, to capture massive amounts of CO2 - A Sustainable Development approach

CO2 Solution - www.co2solution.com

Today's reality

bullet point Industrial nations want to reduce their dependency on fossil carbons
bullet point Innovative technologies are needed to address Climate Change

Sustainable development responses

bullet point Reduce dependency on fossil carbon by using fossil carbon more than once: recycle fossil carbon
bullet point In order to recycle this fossil carbon, capture it in a way it can be recycled

Climate change solutions: two complementary approaches

Reduce CO2 emissions

bullet point Make existing industrial installations more efficient
bullet point Make greater use of renewable energy

Capture more of emitted CO2

bullet point Improve technologies to capture and recycle/sequestrate CO2

In order to capture more CO2, replicate what nature does, with CO2 Solution

bullet point Standard genetic engineering technologies now make it possible to replicate a natural bio-catalytic mechanism that converts CO2 into HCO3-- (bicarbonate ion)
bullet point A potent bio-catalyst developed by CO2 Solution and immobilized on a column packing allows to selectively remove massive amounts of CO2 from an effluent gas mixture
bullet point Trapped as a bicarbonate solution, it is then ready for various Carbon atom recycling/sequestration processes commonly found in the chemical industry
bullet point This approach is less energy-intensive than with the chemical catalysts and adsorbents currently used by chemical industry

CO2 Solution's bio-catalytic technology: simple and proven CO2 capture, for ISO 14064 compliant projects

CO2 Solution's technology captures CO2 from a gas mixture and converts it into bicarbonate ion, a stable aqueous by-product that favours carbon recycling or carbon sequestration.

bullet point Numerous Kyoto CDM projects aim at capturing large amounts of CO2 from various industrial processes. Most of these projects rely on traditional chemical catalyst technologies, not optimized to comply with ISO 14064 requirements and WRI GHG Protocol guidelines, hence delaying project launch - CO2 Solution's bicarbonate ion by-product is obtained through affordable, sustainable development methods; it adds potential recycling value to the currently limited revenues of CO2 equivalent credits of any CDM project.

CO2 Recycling with CO2 Solution

Carbon from fossil origins, trapped by CO2 Solution's bio-catalytic packed column, can readily be reintroduced as a raw material into various industrial sectors that heavily depend on carbon from fossil origin for their carbon-based products. Here are typical examples of sustainable development recycling processes:

bullet point Precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC), used daily by the pulp and paper industry, is obtained from CO2 produced from natural gas - this CO2 from fossil origin could be replaced by CO2 Solution's bicarbonate ion by-product
bullet point Coal-fired power plants are equipped with SO2 scrubbers that use large quantities of calcium carbonate to neutralize SO2 from exhaust gas emitted at the stack - the carbonate fraction of calcium carbonate could be provided by CO2 Solution's bicarbonate ion byproduct
bullet point Gas manufacturers offer CO2 gas in various purities depending on their customer needs (medical use, scientific research, food grade for beverages, technical grade for industrial use, etc). Most of these CO2 grades are obtained from fossil carbon - now CO2 Solution's bicarbonate ion by-product could provide this industry with an alternative to produce "green labeled CO2", for those customers who care more and more for sustainable development and insist on getting their CO2 supply from a recycled carbon

CO2 sequestration with CO2 Solution

Combined with wastes with high cation content, CO2 Solution's technology by-product could be permanently sequestrated into rock solid carbonates. This process has the additional benefit to neutralize some hazardous characteristics of industrial wastes.

About CO2 Solution
CO2 Solution is active in the air pollution control market. It offers large CO2 emitters a sustainable development approach to generate or purchase ISO 14064 certified CO2 emission credits or offsets to fulfill their GHG obligations towards the Kyoto Protocol for climate change.

Established in 1997 in Quebec City, CO2 Solution became a public company on March 19th, 2004, trading on the Canadian TSX Venture Exchange (under the symbol CST). It has developed a novel way to capture massive amounts of CO2. This technological platform was successfully demonstrated on a municipal incinerator, a demanding industrial environment.

Key Benefits for CO2 credit purchasers
CO2 Solution's systems allow large CO2 emitters to design efficient greenhouse gas reduction projects complying with the requirements of ISO 14064 standard, the Greenhouse Gas Protocol guidelines jointly developed by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and the World Resources Institute (WRI), the Canadian GHG Offset program and the UNFCCC Clean Development Mechanism (Kyoto protocol on climate change). They also bring to the industry a novel way to reduce their fossil carbon dependency through the recycling of an energy generation carbon into a chemical structure carbon.

Target Buyers
CO2 Solution's technology is appropriate for operators of thermal power plants, cement industry, waste incineration, pulp and paper and other industries heavily relying on fossil carbon for their energy needs.
