A ten-year celebration of the Rimini Expo - ECOMONDO 2007
Ecomondo 2007 Rimini (Italy)
The International Trade Fair on Material & Energy Recovery & Sustainable
Development
From 24 to 27 November 2007, Rimini Expo (Italy) will host the eleventh
Ecomondo. Since 1997 it has focused attention on the future development
of recycling, but this is now an industrial sector with great economic and
fundamental social value. Safeguarding the environment means manufacturing
with reusable materials, and the progress of recycling has been followed yearly in
the expo.

In 2006 there were:
 |
70,000 square metres of exhibits, |
 |
 |
900 companies from over 20 countries |
 |
 |
45,146 visitors (an increase of 1.2% on 2004) from 50 countries |
 |
 |
211 international business meetings |
 |
 |
285 accredited journalists |
Ecomondo 2007 will occupy ten halls of the Rimini Expo Centre and, as is the
tradition, the core will be mainly about the complete waste cycle - through
to end products made from recycled material. There will be a further focus on
technologies for the treatment and transformation of individual material and
a high profile will be given to waste handling, particularly that resulting from
construction and demolition, with demo areas and dedicated routes.
New Sections
2007 will further boost newer sections, which are now established, such as
‘Systems and technology for the complete water cycle’, ‘Energy from renewable
sources and sustainable mobility’, ‘Air quality’, ‘Risks and safety’, ‘Analysis and
integrated control systems’ and ‘Service for the environment’.
‘Energy from renewable sources, energy saving and efficiency, emission trading
and sustainable mobility’, has had many high profile events, thanks to a special
science committee, partnership with Euromobility and different Italian bodies and
the prestigious partnership with the Kyoto Club. ‘Water cycle and reclamation
of contaminated sites’ will be expanded with exhibitors specialised in water
treatment accessories. And Ecofatto will be in the spotlight - it is Europe’s only
show of the best products for everyday use made from recycled materials.
Ecomondo will continue to specialise in individual materials (paper, wood,
glass, aluminium, steel, plastic, rubber and electronic waste), and differentiated
collection, treatment and reuse.
Features
The expo and cultural events will have an important focus on the biological
treatment of agricultural waste. This initiative will concentrate on energy
generation in farms, a project launched with small to medium enterprises, and
include equipment for cultivating and transforming agricultural produce and
by-products into biofuels. An exhibition on reuse will also be there, showing the
procedure for production and use of energy, starting from the agricultural sector
and running through to service and manufacturing companies.
Science Seminars & Conferences
Once again in 2007, the cultural section will be a key point of the event. The
science committee is concentrating on innovations and application of the recent
regulations, composting and organic produce, strategies for waste prevention,
energy recovery, innovative technologies, research and the economic and cultural
aspects of integrated waste management. Other issues include emission trading,
technologies, applicability of renewable energy, biofuels obtained from agriculture,
construction with low efficient energy consumption, sustainable mobility and
quality of air in indoor environments.
Water and contaminated sites will have a lot of coverage, as will regulations and biotechnological
innovation in
reclamation and
contaminated sites,
management aspects,
treatment and cycle
of the various types of
water and application
of the norms.
Professor Luciano
Morselli, the
coordinator of the
seminars, explains,
“The great normative
evolution, at both
national and
community level, will highlight an innovative methodological approach for the
use of technologies and integrated control of the environment. The key aspects
of the seminars will be on the recovery sector (water, contaminated sites, waste),
material recycling processes and energy recovery. On the energy front, in the
context of a global challenge, Italy must implement a policy of efficiency, lower
consumption with the verification of the possible recovery of energy in all
manufacturing cycles, through to micro projects on a local scale throughout the
country. As always, Ecomondo will feature a complete authoritative overview of
the work underway and discussions on the completed projects.”
Regenerate Refill Re-use
RI3 Regenerate Refill Re-use will be in its third showing. Companies showcase the
regeneration and recycling of printing media (ink-jet cartridges and toner) and the
recovery of surplus electric and electronic material, such as computers and mobile
phones.
Above all else and following last year’s successful experience, Ecomondo will
highlight informative events, where the public can talk with experts, asking
questions and discussing the hottest topics. The ‘Science Cafés’ will also be back
to animate the expo area, in a sort of ‘instructions for use’, bringing together
experts and the general public.
