Solar fuel for a clean planet

Solel

Solar panelsThe utilisation of sunlight for energy is one of civilisation’s greatest rays of hope. Here at Solel, it is not a myth. Our home-grown technology creates clean, responsible, and competitively priced fuel from the sun’s endless source of energy.

In the small Israeli town of Beit Shemesh, presciently named, as it translates as “The House of the Sun,” Solel Solar Systems is leading the world in renewable, solar thermal energy production. After years of innovation and development, Solel offers an independent source of energy to every country with an independent source of sunshine.

Forget everything you ever knew about power plants, because Solel brings the sun inside. Solel’s fields of patented solar receivers and sun-focusing collectors produce enough energy to power a city; a clear example of how solar fuel can replace the coal stacks of yesterday.

Solel is set to partner with governments, utilities, and local energy and engineering companies to build solar-powered power plants and change the rules of the energy game. In every location, its fully engineered SunField LP package can fuel local job creation and economic growth, in addition to accelerating the twenty-first century vision of a greener, less depleted planet.

About Solel

Solel’s mission is to assist the public and private sectors reduce their dependence on fossil fuels by providing clean, renewable and affordable energy. Its highly innovative and commercially proven solutions are the global standard for utility scale solar thermal power. Solel’s SunField LP solar field concept offers power plant developers a lifetime of solar fuel, built in from day one.

Solel is currently building solar power plants in Spain, and its American subsidiary, Solel, Inc., is developing a 553 MW solar power plant, the Mojave Solar Park (MSP) in California’s Mojave Desert. MSP will encompass nine square miles and will generate 1,388 gigawatts of energy annually, at a price competitive with plants powered by fossil fuels. Nine power plants in California’s Mojave Desert using Solel’s technology have been operating successfully for over twenty years, producing 350 MW of electricity for 500,000 consumers and eliminating the need for two million barrels of oil annually.

Led by a team of solar professionals, Solel’s staff combines proven experience with field tested know-how and draws on more than 20 years of research and commercial operations. Solel employs more than 350 people in its Beit Shemesh, Israel headquarters and in its Spanish and U.S. subsidiaries.

The Technology

Solel’s parabolic trough solar thermal technology is the most proven and economically feasible electricity producing utility scale solar technology. Sunshine is converted into useful thermal energy, and subsequently into electricity, by way of parabolic mirrors that concentrate the solar energy onto solar thermal receivers containing a heat transfer fluid. The heat transfer fluid is circulated and heated through the receivers, and the heat is released to a series of heat exchangers to generate super-heated steam. The steam powers a turbine/generator to produce electricity delivered to a utility’s electric grid.

A central computerised tracking facility enables optimal absorption of the sun’s energy by automatically adjusting the alignment of the parabolic mirrors. From the moment the sun rises until it dips over the horizon, all of its rays are captured and converted into usable energy.

Solel’s UVAC 2008 solar receiver, the world’s best selling receiver, lies at the heart of the technology, offering plant operators unsurpassed efficiencies and revenues. Solel continues to improve the technology in order to create greater efficiencies and lower the cost of energy.

Tomorrow

At Solel, we are convinced that our technology represents the tomorrow for energy. Solar thermal energy has the greatest potential out of all renewable energies to be a game changer. If applied to a much greater extent than it is now, we can offset much of the projected increased demand for energy and thus mitigate the effects of global warming, in addition to offering to many countries decreased reliance on foreign fuel sources.

Solel sees that the market for our technology is growing rapidly – there is fantastic potential for solar thermal energy to become a very significant renewable energy source in locations possessing superior solar resources. Our proven technology will fulfill a leading role in meeting the demand.
