RTCC - Mission statement

RTCC has been published for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change conferences since COP 6, The Hague in 2000.

The challenges have really taken shape and solidified with the economic downturn accelerating the need for a deal to be reached. This message is a clear one coming out of much of the content of the magazine.

Particular items we have noticed with this issue of RTCC are firstly the rise in the profile of cleantech clusters, promoting easier ways to access new business opportunities in other countries. Secondly, there is also a clear increased action from wider regional administrations concerned about the rights of their citizens and future of local business. Thirdly, the renewable energies field continues to discover, develop and churn out new technologies. The global developments in solar energy are widespread and significant – to the extent where they have their own section, focusing on the future of CSP (concentrating solar power).

Many articles touch on the need to effectively transfer the power produced in one area to be used in another, and the possibilities of a smart grid. Movements in this direction are exciting, and we would urge you to get in touch with the companies who are pushing this forward.

Africa has stepped up to the media table in promoting various initiatives and programmes. This is the first time we have had quite so many articles from this continent, and we hope it continues.

Finally we are delighted with the support we have received from Dr Pachauri of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and the Danish Ministry for Climate and Energy. It is an acknowledgement of the value of RTCC where we show COP delegates the real responses to climate change. And how decisions made at the COPs really do free up and make further business possible.

RTCC is accredited as an official observer to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change process. We are a nongovernmental organisation showcasing policies, innovations, technologies, products and services related to the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions and adaptation to the impacts of climate change. This guide and its website (www.rtcc.org) are important components of a global exchange of knowledge about how best to respond to global climate and developmental challenges.
