Lighting Brazil efficiently
Hexa Energy Efficiency
Hexa Energy Efficiency is the materialisation of the dream of three Brazilian entrepreneurs interested in minimising the impacts caused by human interaction with the environment. They settled on the implementation of programmes, technologies, equipment and ideas aimed at reducing power use and using it intelligently.
To meet the accelerated demand of the market, Hexa has developed lighting equipment for the public and private areas, external and internal environments, using LED (Light Emitting Diodes) technology, which is the most updated technology worldwide in terms of lighting.
In particular, Hexa has developed expertise in the following:
- Equipment for LEDs for lighting public and private, facing internal and external environments and systems to improve public energy efficiency;
- Lighting equipment for LEDs for the security area, with certification "EX";
- Lighting equipment for LEDs, powered by solar or wind power;
- Equipment for control systems and street lighting networks; and,
- Highly efficient engines (reducing consumption by 95%).
This equipment is already being installed across Brazilian cities and regions reducing the consumption of electrical energy, such as Pantanal and Amazon.
The technology of Hexa engines, from Hexa Motors (HEXA EE DIVISION) is up to date and will have their products available in 2010.
Hexa is building its first factory with equipment using this technology in the city of Campos in the state of Rio de Janeiro. This has had an overall investment of US$18 million. Hexa is also planning, over the next 30 months, to establish LED factories in other cities, specifically to better supply Sao Paulo, Brasilia, Campo Grande and Manaus, all running a sustainable architecture project focused on obtaining certification criteria for building LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).
The ultimate goal is to have products and services which are environmentally sustainable and responsibly generated. The project also considers areas, such as transportation of workers and awareness of special needs, to ensure we are are acting in a socially responsible way.
The market is becoming more demanding. As a reflection of this, the design of every component of the equipment is carefully considered so the impacts on the environment are minimised. This includes both at the manufacturing stage or during its useful life after the LEDs have left the factory.
Exacting standards
Our strong ecological focus is shown in our adherence to standards. The electronic circuit designs aim to meet the Restriction on the Use of Hazardous Substances and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment. They fully meet the standards available from the Brazilian, Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas, the International Electrotechnical Commission and other international standards related to LEDs, electronics, lighting equipment and power generation and solar power.
To assess the quality and performance of equipment, prototypes are sent to INMETRO (the National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality) and to IPT (Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnológicas). Trials are then carried out for lighting, enclosure, vibration, impact, thermal performance and electrical insulation.
Hexa generates intelligent solutions for demanding customers, but above all it is dedicated to the environment.

Facts about LEDs
- It’s the globally most advanced technology in lighting;
- They are energised semiconductor diodes that emit
light, transforming over 90% of the energy into light;
- They reduce power consumption by 45% and 95%;
- They do not emit UV radiation;
- They do not attract insects;
- They are almost completely recyclable (98%);
- They do not use the hazardous element, mercury, so are
a greener light source greener than others in the market;
- They have high longevity (50,000 to 100,000 hours -
10 to 20 times more than other bulbs).
