Sharing a car – save 290kg CO2 a year
Mobility International Inc.
Life these days is all about mobility and flexibility. But that doesn’t mean you need a car of your own. CarSharing lets you use a car round-the-clock on a self-service basis with all its benefits, but without the financial disadvantages.
The 89,000 customers of Mobility CarSharing Switzerland have access to 2,250 vehicles at 1,150 stations in 430 towns across Switzerland. There are ten different vehicle categories, so you can choose the right car for a specific purpose. Thanks to state-of-the-art technology, the Mobility CarSharing system is also simple and fully automatic.
Combined mobility
More and more people, especially in cities and towns, are discovering the benefits of combined mobility by intelligently combining public and private transport. If you use the train for longer journeys and the bus, tram or bicycle for shorter distances, then Mobility CarSharing comes into its own as a supplement for transport and trips beyond the railway or bus networks and outside of public transport service times. The system is effective, as every drive is consciously planned in advance. Moreover, the periodic billing reveals the total costs of the car mobility.
The CarSharing system has been proved to be sustainable because every trip must be reserved in advance. Regular invoices show the full costs of car mobility. This leads to a change in the behaviour of CarSharing users, who travel much more frequently by public transport, by bike or on foot and less frequently by car than the rest of the population. This effect is reinforced by the rigorous purchase criteria for vehicles that Mobility insists on, in particular as regards security and pollution.
Voluntary CO2 compensation
Customers can voluntarily pay two centimes surcharge for every kilometre driven to compensate for the CO2 emissions caused. In this way, Mobility also ensures all its own business drives are completely climate-neutral. In 2008, 22.3% of distance driven by Mobility vehicles were compensated. This resulted in the transfer of 202,000 Swiss Francs to myclimate – The Climate Protection Partnership which supports projects that reduce the strain on the environment over the long term.
Mobility International Inc. is a fully-owned subsidiary of the Mobility Cooperative and focuses on its international activities. It provides companies in other countries with extensive expertise in successfully running a CarSharing business.
