People and technology – for a change
Norwegian University of Science and Technology
Everyone is searching for the technological solutions to transform renewable energy into a future source of power. But what about ordinary people? The community? How do you fit technology into everyday life?
Trondheim’s technology twins are two institutions, from the same origins, which jointly produce solutions for a sustainable future. The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is one of the best technical universities in the Nordic region, while SINTEF is the biggest research institution in Scandinavia. Together they represent leading European research expertise on sustainable energy solutions.
Great minds do not think alike
Great minds complement each other and create solutions together. Trondheim’s technology twins have been closely connected for 60 years, with a collaboration that involves widespread shared use of modern laboratories and equipment. NTNU personnel work on SINTEF projects while many SINTEF staff teach at NTNU. We’re international too, with more than 60 countries represented on our scientific staff.
We not only provide cutting-edge technological research, but also focus on the interaction between new technologies, people and policies. The Centre for Sustainable Energy Studies (CenSES) is a new collaborative research centre between NTNU and SINTEF. The centre unites experts from the natural sciences, economics and social sciences in a research group investigating the political and social implications of new energy technologies and the changing climate.
Call for researchers
New technologies pose vast challenges. The public has to understand, accept and embrace them. This acceptance is crucial to developing new infrastructures, and effective and reliable regulations that are the cornerstone of building a more climate-friendly energy system.
We are currently establishing several new international research projects on sustainable energy solutions: solar cells, offshore wind technology, bio-energy as well as carbon capture and storage. We need a considerable number of researchers as we scale up our research on climate-friendly energy solutions.
Join us in the Norwegian cradle of sustainable technology. Located on the fjord-laced northern edge of Europe, the research city of Trondheim represents a truly globalised working environment. It is easy for newcomers to be integrated; it’s a great place to live, and an exciting place to do research.
Top research demands brilliant minds. We’re always looking for the best people.
