US: Apple is teaming up with Nevada utility NV Energy to build a solar farm to support its data centre in Reno, Nevada. This would be Apple’s third solar farm, following the two currently in construction next to its North Carolina data centre. (Clean Technica)

US: The Solar Impulse aircraft is completing the final leg in its journey across America, by flying from Washington, D.C. to New York, relying upon solar-powered energy for fuel, and leaving no pollution in the atmosphere as a result. (Forbes)

UK: British Prime Minister David Cameron has opened the largest offshore windfarm on the planet off the Kent coast. The London Array boasts 175 turbines which have a total capacity of 630MW – enough to power nearly half a million homes a year. The first £1.8 billion phase was funded by DONG Energy, E.ON and Abu Dhabi based clean energy investors Masdar. (RTCC)

US: James T. Gallagher, executive director of the New York State Smart Grid Consortium (NYSSGC), stressed the importance of nurturing innovation in order to modernize the state’s power grid. He called for public-private partnerships established to promote the state-wide implementation of the smart grid. (Smart Meters)

Azerbaijan: Azerbaijan’s State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources has determined the sources of funding for projects through external borrowing. At present the country is working jointly with the German development bank KfW and the Asian Development Bank on the preparation of a feasibility study for renewable energy. (Topix)
