CBD COP11: REDD alone cannot solve global forestry problems

Robert Nasi, director, CGIAR Research Program interview: Rio Conventions Pavilion, CBD COP11, 11/10/2012 – Robert Nasi, director, CGIAR Research Program says while sustainable resource use might be simple to explain, it’s harder to implement.

Using forestry as an example he says the REDD policy framework is not a silver bullet, in no small part because it does not address food security issues. He says multiple policies are required in reality, with locally developed projects able to make as big an impact as global instruments.

REDD however, he says, did successfully put forestry back on the agenda.
