Rio+20: We need comprehensive ocean management regimes

Rio+20 (16/06/2012) – Lynne Zeitlin Hale, Director of the Global Marine Team at the Nature Conservancy calls for a comprehensive ocean management regimes which would protect the oceans resources and make sure they can continue to meet the needs of the people in terms of energy, food, etc.

She stresses the focus should be on implementation at Rio+20 and getting on and doing the things which scientists already know is needed to make the oceans healthy – including schemes which will set up protected areas as well as maintaining and restoring the nature structure which have been helping to protect coastal areas for thousands of years.
