NASA animation charts global warming since 1880

The sky is raining climate change reports these days.

If it’s not UNEP, the World Bank or PwC then the UK’s Met Office and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are getting in on the act.

And don’t forget the US Federal Government’s latest contribution last week.

It’s easy to get confused by this deluge of information and statistics – which is why this new animation from NASA is so useful.

In their own words it “displays a progression of changing global surface temperatures anomalies from 1880 through 2012. Higher then normal temperatures are shown in red and lower then normal temperatures are shown in blue.”

For more details on their methodology visit the NASA website.

OMG we’re all going to die! It looks like the planet is burning up!

I’m in my fifth decade on this Planet, mostly spent in the UK. The first 2 decades I remember as being much colder than the next 2, but over the last 10 years things seem to have cooled off again.

I read an article recently that Scientists had discovered that warming in the Antarctic over the last 50 years had been much greater than they had thought, which was interesting. You see the Antarctic hasn’t retrospectively warmed. It just means that the numbers have been re-assessed and that concerns me, because it’s an example of ‘alarmist’ news (this article being another example of) which doesn’t help ordinary people get a good understanding of what is actually happening.

I’ve read enough lies, damn lies and statistics to know that your own personal experience is as good a measure as any.

How many people are employed in the field of Climate Change? How much money in the form of grants and salaries is involved? If AGW was accepted as flawed to the point of being completely discredited what would all the Scientists and researchers do? Just imagine what the World would be like if the money had been invested into alternative fuels?

I’m not employed or paid in any way by parties with vested interests on either side of the debate, so I feel entitled to express my view that having examined all the ‘facts’ relating to Human CO2 emissions and global temperature, I’ve concluded that there is absolutely no link.

That’s not to say that Human beings aren’t affecting climate in other ways e.g. De-forestation and construction of large conurbations. As there seems little research into other possible causes, the AGW proponents are betting everything on just CO2, which seems to be a fatal error to me.

The ‘climate’ is constantly changing and seems to be subject to cyclical variations over time periods that vary over months, years, decades, centuries and so on, which Climate Scientists haven’t got a handle on. If they had then their models would have predicted the current plateau in temperatures.

The AGW theory and it IS a theory seems to be crumbling away. So if you really believe that human beings are responsible for the warming of the planet, prove it.

Tell us exactly ‘how’ it’s happening, ‘what’ will happen and ‘when’, because based on the last 20 years the ‘what’ and ‘when’ predictions have not panned out and the ‘how’ just doesn’t make sense. Tell us what will happen over the next 3 years – year by year. Telling us that there’s a 90% chance that 2 out of the 3 will be among the top 20 years for temperature is not going to cut it. I could do that…

OMG, what dribble you spew forth. There is no conceivable way you have “examined all the ‘facts’” and I call you out. Your full of proverbial poo, and where is your science to back it up ? I guess your inability to gather the relevant facts, data, and science to back it up will be proof enough that AGW does not care what you think, but marches forth regardless of your efforts to wish it away. The science get stronger, the multiple lines of data and evidence gets stronger by the minute, and yet you proclaim “it is crumbling away”. What utter nonsense. Rob you obviously do not know what you are talking about, and NASA actually does..
